Lane Asset Management

Experience • Independence • Service

Welcome!  Thank you for visiting my site.

Lane Asset Management (LAM, also doing business as Lane Financial Management or LFM) is a Registered Investment Advisor providing comprehensive financial planning and investment management to individuals and small businesses in the Hudson Valley and in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.  Edward Lane, CFP® is Principal of LAM and all professional services are provided by him.  See below for Ed’s background.

LAM serves clients who are successful in their own right and are still active in their careers or are in an active retirement.  Because they devote so much effort to their careers and family, precious little time remains to manage their hard-earned wealth.  Ed’s clients have come to appreciate the inherent advantages of having an independent, experienced professional devoted to supporting their financial planning and investment decisions.

Ed’s approach to financial planning and investment management is to focus first and foremost on fully understanding clients’ financial goals.  Counsel and investment management decisions are then based on attainment of those goals (rather than attainment of a specific or target rate of return, for example) within appropriate risk tolerances.

Having said that, the outlook for investments for the next few years remains subdued, despite the market’s resurgence since March 2009.  In light of the wealth destruction and the elimination of credit supported consumerism, recovery will depend greatly on the effectiveness of government intervention around the world, especially establishment of sustainable new industry and markets.  With that outlook, our investment focus is the preservation of capital combined with a reasonable rate of return. It parallels the concerns of many of our clients who have worked hard to establish their financial strength and want it protected.  Within that context, for those clients comfortable with taking on some level of risk, there will continue to be pockets of opportunity, just as there was during the collapse of late 2007 through to early 2009.

Ed works on a fee-only basis, that is, fees are based on a percentage of assets under management, an hourly rate, or a negotiated fixed fee.  While Ed utilizes his extensive actuarial experience to assist clients in understanding and evaluating complex insurance and annuity products, he does not sell these products and commissions are never charged.
